Boarded the airport shuttle around 4:35 and headed to Greater Pitt Intl Airport. We we so pleased that the flight was on time and that it seemed the connecting flight to CLT was also, We had just a bit of an in air delay because of some fog in Charlotte, but arrived in ample time to make the connection, which was listed as “on time. Amy headed off to get coffee and I canceled the rental car reservation. It seemed that they moved aircraft around and our plane was incoming from JAX and it was at the gate by the time we got there. WHEW! Boarding wen very smoothly and we were off to MCO - or so we thought.
After the doors were closed, the pilot makes an announcement that, on the previous flight, the plane managed to swallow a bird. He said the maintenance people were testing the engines (they made a horrible sound) and it would be about 10 minutes or so to get it settled and the paperwork completed. OK, not a horrible delay. That 10 turned into 20, 25, and then an hour. Finally around 10:30, we were instructed to deplane and wait in the gate area. The instructions to check all seat back pockets, overhead bins, etc. This fell on deaf ears as Amy left her Kindle in the seat back pocket. Hopefully they will recover it for her.
OI, maybe we shouldn’t have canceled the rental car. I must admit that a new plane was acquired and we boarded again. Finally in the air close to noon. Landed at MCO at 1:31, collected the luggage and headed to Mearns Connect for the shuttle for The Caribbean Beach Resort Hotel. It took us to nearly 3:15 to get into the room and so hurriedly changed clothes and headed to the Expo for Amy to pick up her bib, gear bag and shirts.
It was definitely downsized from when we were there in 2019, but she got what she wanted and we headed back to the hotel. Did some unpacking before we needed to head to Disney Springs for dinner.
As we sat down for dinner at Frontera Cocina, we realized that we were famished, due to not having any time to really have food during the day. Started out with a wonderful margarita and some salsa, guac and chips. Then Amy had carnitas and I had red chile enchiladas. It is so impressive and reassuring that Disney pays close attention to allergies and special menus.
